Determination of biological oxygen demand for purifying liq. in a clarification plant is claimed. In the process, a definite quantity of bacteria are aerated via a throttling device, continuously, or for a predetermined time, until an O2 equilibrium is set up. During further aeration at constant rate, the equilibrium is disturbed by the addition of a standard solution of known BOD value. A quantity of the loaded fluid, for which the BOD must be measured, is then added. The resulting reductions of oxygen are measured and recorded in each case, and the areas under the chart recordings are compared. Also claimed is an appts. to carry out the process.
