The object of the invention is automatically to maintain a preset depth of a furrow for sowing in, especially for precision single-seed sowing or planting using a device consisting of three main elements - a gauging wheel (5), a hydraulic regulating valve (9) and a double-acting ram bucket (17). The gauging wheel (5) moves freely a short distance in front of a furrow-producing ploughshare (10) along the line of the furrow in order exactly to follow the configuration of the land and accurately to transmit differences therein via its push rod (7) to the plunger piston (8) of the hydraulic regulating valve (9) which, on the basis of the signals received, directs the hydraulic flow towards the bottom or the top of the double-acting ram bucket (17) in order immediately to impose the differences perceived by the gauging wheel (5) on the furrow-producing ploughshare (10) and thus to maintain the depth which has been preset manually using a crank (1) opposite a graduated plate (3) fixed to the supporting structure (4) of the whole of the device.
