An ink tank cartridge (1000) comprises: a container (601) having a partition (610) disposed therein so as to form first and second chambers (611,612); the first chamber (611) may contain an ink absorbing member (615A) and the second chamber (612) may contain ink. The first chamber (611) is provided with an ink supply port member (620) through which an ink supply needle of a recording head (2a,Fig. 1) may pass and is engaged. A lid (630) having an air vent hole (633) and presser members (634a,634b) which compress the ink absorbing member (615A) against the ink supply port (620) is attached to the top of the container (601) by means of an engaging portion (632) which detachably engages with a rib (614,Fig.3) formed at the top of the container (601), at least a portion of the lid (630), for example that part of the lid (630) indicated by a phantom line in Figure 2 corresponding to at least one of the chambers (e.g. 611) may be opened about a hinge portion (631) to allow for replenishment of ink in the ink tank cartridge (1000).
