The procedure enables determination of the acoustic insulation of a room from an adjoining room. The process includes determination of the octave band which corresponds to an insulation value which is nearest to the global insulation value applicable to noise received in the examined room (R). The different walls of the adjoining room are tapped with an impact hammer, and the for each wall the acoustic pressure is measured both in the room providing the source of the noise and the whose insulation is being measured. Such measurements are carried out at the octave band which has been determined to be most representative of noise in general. The values are used to determine the efficiency of the walls, which may be of different materials, in providing acoustic insulation. Measurements may be made using a constant acoustic pressure of 80 dB, and using octave bands which may include 63, 125, 250, 1000, 2000 and 4000 Hz.
