A unit consists of a tube of a plastic material having internal and external vanes of stainless steel. The tube is placed in a chamber through which the water must pass, and the vanes create chicanes which vary the direction it flows. The stainless steel vanes are connected to a power supply so they form alternating positive and negative electrodes, and the polarity is reversed at intervals to provide a self cleaning capacity.
