The filter is formed by inserting an elliptical waveguide section (22) into a circular waveguide (20). The inserted section is positioned at right angles to the direction of propagation of signals in the waveguide. The circular waveguide has an input section (10) and an output adaptor section (12) which feeds to a rectangular waveguide. The dimensions and length of the elliptical waveguide define the parameters for dual-mode operation.
