The system includes a number of base stations (BS), each having a HF interface leading to a multiplexer/demultiplexer which processes four 32 kbit voice ADPCM channels to give two 64 kbit PCM signals. A controller converts CT2 CAI protocol signals to channel D ISDN protocol signals. A subscriber interface unit uses these to produce a 144 kbit ISDN base rate access interface signal. A connection system (SC) connects subscribers to the PSTN by 2.048 Mbit arterial cables. An interface separates the 64 kbit signals for multiplexing and the channel D is analysed to produce a control message. R2 signals are generated and switched with the multiplexed channels and a third interface multiplexes it in a primary rate access interface E1 signal.
