The device is formed as a linear graduated scale (11), on to which is fixed a slide guide (5), which allows the edge (7) of the bed plate (2) of the saw (1) to slide along the guide so as to give a straight line cut. The guide plate (5) is formed from a single sheet, with the edge (6) folded up through ninety degrees. The rear plate of the guide strip (5) is fitted along the whole length of the guide and is designed to receive clamping bars (8), which are designed to fix the guide to the cutting table (9). The edge (7) of the bed plate of the saw is held against the ridge formed by the edge of the slide guide to allow a straight cut to be produced.
