The material column is formed in the ground in order to carry loads, or in order to compress the ground. It has a pile foot (13) which is created in situ, and a pile shaft (14) which has a smaller diameter than that of the foot.The foot is made from vibrated gravel or ballast, and the shaft is made from concrete. The shaft extends at least partly into the foot, and may have reinforcement in the form of a basket (15) or a rod (16).The reinforcement may also extend into the region of the foot
