Hydrodynamic journal bearing used e.g. for cryogenic turbo-rotors, or aircraft cabin pressurising units

A bearing with a hydrodynamic fluid film consists of an outer housing (12) surrounding a shaft (14) and a bearing assembly (16) between the two in the form of vanes (18, 40) and corrugated spacers (30, 32). The inner of the two vanes (40) has perforations for the dissipation of heat. The corrugations in the spacers are set at even intervals round the bearing and are designed to provide an elastic support for the flexible vanes, which are anchored to the housing.
