Perforated drum for aerobic composting of biodegradable material

The drum, in which the degrading material is mixed and aerated, comprises a cylindrical perforate shell 1 with inwardly-directed perforate fins (12, Fig 6) rotatably-driven by a motor 7 and roller 8 acting on drive strip 9. The drum is hinged at 11 to a support frame 6 and vertically-movable by means of height-adjustable legs 10 for loading and discharge. The drum has fastenable doors 2 at both ends. Brushes (14, Fig 8) act on the shell to clean the drum perforations. Inoculant liquid is pumped from a tank 15 to be dispensed above the drum at 18 into the composting material, a sump 19 collecting leached liquid for recirculation.
