A method of calibrating a vector network analyser comprises: measuring a source reflection coefficient 101 when at least one reflection standard is connected to the source port and measuring the transmission tracking error and load reflection coefficient 103 when a thru line is connected between the source and load ports. These measurements are then used to correct a transmission coefficient measurement 105 taken when a device under test (DUT) is connected between the source and load ports. A further method of calibrating a vector network analyser comprises: measuring a source reflection coefficient 101 when at least one reflection standard is connected to the source port and measuring an input reflection coefficient when the device under test is connected between the source and load ports. These measurement may be used to correct a transmission coefficient measurement taken when a device under test is connected between the source and load ports. The measurements made in the above methods may be combined to correct for errors present in a transmission coefficient measurement made by a vector network analyser.
