The present invention concerns the use of hydrofluorocarbon compounds with formula (I):PPR.sub.F -(CH.sub.2).sub.n -X- [C.sub.3 H.sub.5 (OH)]-Y-(CH.sub.2).sub.m -R'.sub.F (I')PP where PPC.sub.3 H.sub.5 (OH) represents the structures: ##STR1## R. sub.F and R.sub.F', which may be identical or different, represent a perfluorinated linear or branched C.sub.4 -C.sub.20 alkyl radical or a mixture of perfluorinated linear or branched C.sub.4 -C.sub. 20 alkyl radicals;PPm and n, which may be identical or different, are 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4;PPX and Y, which may be identical or different, represent O or S. It also concerns certain of these compounds and cosmetic compositions containing these compounds.
