PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an electromagnetic induction pipe locator to be hardly affected by the magnetic field from a cable, through which signals are introduced to a pipe buried underground at the time of locating the pipe with the pipe locator. ;SOLUTION: As shown in Fig. (a), a detecting coil 21 attached to the front end of the searching rod 22 of a detector 20 is formed in a flat shape having a short height (h) and a large width W. When the coil 21 is moved along the ground surface 33 above a pipe 32 buried underground, the intensity of the magnetic field changes like the signal output 35 from the flat coil 21 as shown in Fig. (b). When the conventional detecting coil having a long height is used, the accuracy of detecting the location and depth of the pipe 32 is deteriorated like the signal output 36 from the conventional coil as shown in Fig. (b).;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
