PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a task lighting system and a task ambient lighting system which allow a user to appropriately take a rest for eyes. SOLUTION: When a power switch 8 is turned on, fluorescent lamps 4, 5 turn on. A working space is illuminated to high illumination by the light outputs of the plurality of fluorescent lamps 4, 5 (first illumination mode). A timer T1 starts time measuring at the same time that time power switch 8 is turned on, and the time measured is up after a predetermined period (e.g. 50 minutes) has elapsed in the first illumination mode. Then a timer T2 starts time measuring and the fluorescent lamp 5 turns off. The light outputs of the plurality of fluorescent lamps 4, 5 decrease and the working space provides lower illumination than the high illumination (second illumination mode). When the time measured by the timer T2 is up after a predetermined period (e.g. five minutes) has elapsed in the second illumination mode, the timer T1 starts time measuring again and the fluorescent lamp 5 turns on to illuminate the working space to the high illumination (first illumination mode).
