PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface pattern forming method for a design block on a laying face, a slope face, an earth retaining face or a wall face. SOLUTION: A surface pattern forming method for a design block includes coating a part of the surface of a design block 1 with a masking body 5 and then separating mortar from the surface of the design block 1, not coated with the masking body 5, to form an aggregate-exposed aggregate face and leave a non-aggregate-exposed face containing mortar on the surface of the design block 1 coated with the masking body 5. The design block for a laying face, a slope face, an earth retaining face or a wall face has the aggregate face from which the mortar is separated and the non-aggregate exposed face containing mortar coexist on the surface of the design block 1.
