PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method using a time division method based on a soliton or an RZ pulse capable of flexibly dealing with a band responding to the maximum burst rate of a requested LAN by transmitting a time division multiplex packet composed of timewisely compressed ATM cells while using the subordinate soliton or the general RZ pulse using distributed management. ;SOLUTION: Light from a light source 101 is added to a phase modulator 102 for charping generation and that signal and an electric signal 103 to be transmitted are modulated by a modulation means 104. When an emitted soliton wave is passed through an optical amplifier 1, this light is transmitted by a fiber 105-1 to which the distributed management is performed for changing it in a first stage and a distribution compensation fiber 105-2 and amplified by an optical amplifier OA 2. Then, this light is transmitted by the fiber 105-1 and distribution compensation fiber 105-2. On a final stage, the light is received through on optical amplifier OA (x) by a photodetector 107, demodulated by a demodulation means 108 and converted to an electric signal 109.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
