PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To positively and extremely rapidly invert a rotational direction in a single-phase induction motor through which speed is controlled. SOLUTION: In the case where a single-phase induction motor 1 with a speed detector 3 is operated in a forward or a reverse direction through a forward or a reverse signal 5 or 6 inputted by a control circuit 21 and a setting rotation speed via a drive circuit 10, when a backward or a reverse trigger signal 8 or 7 is switched, while the motor 1 is being operated in the forward or the reverse direction by the output trigger signals 7 and 8 to operate the motor 1 in the backward or the reverse direction (a), a control current is allowed to flow via the drive circuit 10, the motor 1 is damped, the rotational speed is reduced to that for enabling the rotation direction to be switched (b), the reverse or the forward trigger signal 8 and 7 is outputted to the drive circuit 10, and the motor 1 is operated in the reverse or the forward direction by the control circuit 21.
