PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable retrieval by coupling tables between database without specifying a converting method at the time of retrieval even when data items to be couplet are different in representation form. ;SOLUTION: The locations and data representation forms of data items, a converting method between the representation forms, etc., are previously defined and registered in a definition information storage part 15, the location of a retrieval items is determined by deciding which data item on a database a retrieval condition item corresponds to, and data items are combined to complement relative information needed to retrieve all data items; and a retrieval candidate generation part 3 generates a retrieval candidate, a retrieval object is generated in consideration of merging conditions, and a retrieval control part 17 generates retrieval request sentences by retrieval objects. A retrieval part 5 performs retrieval with the retrieval request sentences and when plural retrieval result are obtained, the retrieval results are integrated and returned to the retriever.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
