PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve water quality by controlling the eutrophication of lakes and marshes and the propagation of algae by shielding the surfaces of lakes and marshes of depth not exceeding a specified value whose water quality is to be improved in a necessary shielding ratio given by a specified formula. ;SOLUTION: The surfaces of lakes, marshes, and others of depth not exceeding 5 m whose water quality is to be improved are shielded in a necessary shielding ratio Y given by equation Y=K-A log (X) (wherein X is the days necessary for doubling algae; K is a constant; A is 50-55). As regards the constitution of a shielding member to be used, floats 2 are attached to the fringe part of a net-shaped member like a finishing net, and weights 4 for anchoring the member 1 on the bottom through ropes 3 are attached to the lower parts of the floats 2. Numbers of shielding members 5 having buoyancy are mounted on the member 1. In this way, since the surfaces of lakes, marshes, and others are shielded from the sun in a necessary shielding ratio, the propagation of algae can be controlled, an ecological system can be protected, and water quality can be improved.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
