PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound available by a stereo- differentiating oxidative coupling reaction of a bromonaphthol ring condensed with various kinds of optically active 1,3-diols and useful for achieving a high asymmetric yield in organic synthetic reactions. ;SOLUTION: This compound is 1,1,5',1"-ternaphthalene-2,2',6',2"-tetrol represented by formula I. For example, an (R,R) compound represented by formula I is obtained as a single stereoisomer by condensing an (R,R)-2,4- pentanediol with 1-bromo-2-naphthol under suitable conditions, providing a compound represented by formula II, then condensing the resultant compound with a compound represented by formula III and obtained from 1,5-dibromo-2,6- naphthalenediol, subsequently subjecting the prepared product to a demethoxymethylating reaction, condensing the resultant compound with the compound represented by formula II, then tetralithiating the obtained compound, oxidizing the condensation product with air in the presence of copper cyanide, conducting a coupling reaction and reacting the resultant compound with boron trifluoride.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
