PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress any deterioration in the life of a thrust bearing and any increase in its size by reducing the load exerted on it. ;SOLUTION: The internal pressure of a swash plate chamber 2 is controlled to an intermediate pressure between the discharge pressure and suction pressure to thereby roughly balance the frontward thrust load established by the internal pressure of a cylinder bore 8 and the rearward thrust load established by the internal pressure of the swash plate chamber 2, both exerted on a piston, with each other. This control is realized, by way of example, by the connection of a suction chamber 3b and the swash plate chamber 2 via a regulating valve 20 that works to hold the internal pressure of the swash plate chamber 2 at such a proper intermediate pressure.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
