PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for reducing dispersion and measuring the precise stress enlargement coefficient of flat glass. ;SOLUTION: The method is to give weight to flat glass G to a degree that a dent is formed by using the indenter 2 of a square cone in a Vickers hardness tester, to measure the length of a crack extending from the dent or the ridge line of the dent and to measure the stress enlargement coefficient of flat glass G. The humidity of a space to be measured is adjusted to be not more than 10%, not more than 5% if desirable.
