PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device capable of identifying a color with high accuracy. ;SOLUTION: A color to be identified is designated from an image taken by a CCD camera 1 by an input device 14 such as a mouse. According to a color signal of a picture element projecting the designated color, red, green and blue light components R, G, B are transmitted through red, green and blue band-pass filters 2-4. Secondly, the light components R, G, B are compared by red, green and blue canceling means 5-7 to extract red, green and blue light component values R', G' and B'. Subsequently, the light components R', G', B' are respectively raised to n-th power by red, green and blue self-amplifying means 8-10 to obtain the extreme signals R", G", B". The ratio of the signals is calculated by a ratio calculating means 11. An identifying means 13 compares the calculated ratio with a ratio stored by a storage means 12 to identify the color taken by the camera 1.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
