PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a downsized inexpensive safe species sensing device of simple structure, easy to be manufactured, and excellent in reliability. ;SOLUTION: This reflection type species sensing device for sensing the existence and the concentration of a chemical or biological species is provided with a light source 2, a sensor 4 provided with a refletion film 6 in its one end, and generating a measurable change in a light transmitting characteristic under the presence of the chemical or biological species by receiving light radiated from the light source 2 to transmit it, and by transmitting reflected light in the reflection film 6 to the reverse direction, and a light transmitting.taking-out part 8 arranged between the light source 2 and the sensor 4, transmitting the light from the light source 2 to get incident into the sensor 4, and outputting the reflected light from the reflection film 6.
