PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the fuel consumption rate and the discharge smoke, by facilitating the gas blowout from an auxiliary combustion chamber to a main combustion chamber with little resistance, as well as increasing the mixture gas forming energy of a fuel spray and the air by strengthening the vortex in the auxiliary combustion chamber, while holding the passage area of an auxiliary chamber nozzle hole at an adequate value. SOLUTION: In this diesel engine, an auxiliary combustion chamber 2 in which a fuel injection valve 5 is provided, and a main combustion chamber 1 formed at the upper part of a piston 7, are communicated by an auxiliary chamber nozzle hole 3. In this case, when the angle made by a side wall 2d at the far side from a cylinder center line B-B, and the bottom surface 2e of the auxiliary combustion chamber 2 is made as 1 , and the angle made by a side wall 2c at the near side from the cylinder center line B-B, and the bottom surface 2e is made as 2 , the auxiliary combustion chamber 2 is composed to make 1 2 , or a space at the near side to the cylinder center line B-B is formed larger than the space at the far side from the cylinder center line B-B, by combining the side walls and the bottom surface 2e by a circular arc surface.
