COOLANT FILTER HAVING DELAY DISCHARGE AID COOLANT ADDITIVE CARTRIDGE AND ITS PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spin-on canister type coolant filter for a diesel engine having a mechanism for delay discharging chemical additive to the filtered coolant. SOLUTION: This filter 20 includes a chemical additive cartridge 42 fitted in an outer shell 22 and a filter cartridge 62 fitted in the outer shell 22 around the chemical additive cartridge 42. Coolant to be filtered is passed through the chemical additive cartridge 42 and the chemical additive is slowly discharged into a flow of the coolant passing. Next, the coolant containing the chemical additive is passed through the filter cartridge 62 to remove relative large fragments of the chemical additive together with other refuse. Since the chemical additive is slowly discharged, the chemical additive includes a relatively small air vent 58 and an outlet 80, and the filter outlet includes a restriction orifice 78 for further delaying the discharge of the chemical additive to the coolant flow.
