PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide peripherals an information reporting method, and a storage medium which can generate and automatically send information to a host device if a matter which should be reported is generated on the peripheral and omit information gathering and reporting by an administrator. ;SOLUTION: This device has a memory 3 which stores network settings, a memory 4 which stores information on computers to be informed of messages, a process part 5 which judges whether the settings in the memory 3 are effective and whether or not the settings indicate that the opposite parties stored in the memory 4 are reached, a detection part 6 which detects whether or not such a matter that a message should be reported to the opposite parties is generated in a printer, a message generation part 7 which generates the message, a communication part 8 which sends the message to the opposite parties, and a network process part 9 which performs network communication control.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
