PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a fire even in performing roughing through diesinking discharge work by performing working in a condition forming a retaining layer of a specific layer thickness, having a main component of a carbon dioxide and/or a sulfur hexafluoride on the oil level of a work oil. ;SOLUTION: Carbon dioxide is injected into a work oil 2 from an injection tube 13 via an opening part 9. Then carbon dioxide forms bubbles 15 to float on the oil level of the work oil 2, and forms a layer on the oil level of the work oil 2 on the inner side of an enclosing frame 8, due to the weight about 1.5 times of air, thereby forming a retaining layer having a layer thickness of 5 cm or more. In this condition, electric discharge is generated between a discharge working electrode 12 and a work piece 11, and the electrode 12 is moved relatively to the work piece 11, thereby performing given diesinking discharge work. The work oil 2 is never burnt, as far as the oil level of the work oil 2 is covered by the retaining layer composed of carbon dioxide.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
