PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically measure the area and the volume of the cell of a cylinder for gravure printing. ;SOLUTION: A microscope 1 is used for obtaining a magnified image picture of a cell formed on a cylinder. The picture image of the cell picked up by the microscope 1 is taken into an image processing equipment 2 with a video capture board 6. On the basis of the taken-in image picture, a CPU 7 of the image processing equipment 2 automatically determines the threshold value, and obtains a binary data. After noise elimination, contour extraction and pseudocell elimination, a contour form corresponding to an actual cell is extracted, and the area is measured. From the engraving condition data at the time forming the cell and the obtained cell form or the area, the volume of the extracted cell is operated.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
