PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for substituting a call instruction in a computer. ;SOLUTION: A compiler loader system can form a different image which can be loaded on a target computer corresponding to the different version of an instruction set architecture. The different image is formed of a single executable program in a secondary storage device. A compiler generates the program that contains a routine which can be executed by the versions of the target computer, an address in a program position where the routine is called, an executable instruction only by one version of the target computer executing the same function as the routine with superior performance and an architecture entry having a value indicating which target machine of the version executes the instruction and that can be executed. A loader decides whether the target machine executes the instruction. When it does, a sub-routine call appearing in the address in the architecture entry is substituted for the instruction appearing in the architecture entry.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
