SLAG FOR RE-MELTING ELECTROSLAG, AND MANUFACTURE OF HIGHLY PURIFIED MATERIAL USING THE SLAG

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture the ESR(Electro-Slag Re-melting) cast ingot with high purity and excellent surface by containing CaF₂, CaO, BaO and MgO of the prescribed composition. ;SOLUTION: The slag contains, by weight, 50-85% CaF₂, 10-30% CaO, ≤20% BaO, and 0-10% MgO. The slag can be used in manufacturing 18Mn-18Cr steel, Ni-based and Ni-Fe-based super alloy, etc. In ESR, an electrode composition is not turned into a cast ingot as it is, but subjected to fluctuation in the composition and taking that into consideration, it is necessary to determine the composition of the electrode to meet the intended composition. The slag of the above composition can be manufactured in a regular method. In the ESR using the slag, the operating condition is not limited, the slag has the appropriate specific resistance, fluidity and melting point, the ESR can be achieved in a stable condition, and the excellent material can be manufactured in excellent yield.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
