PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an oil absorbing material which can absorb oil selectively from a mixed system of water and oil, does not release oil in water, and is excellent as a whole in water resistance, emulsifying oil adsorption, surfactant resistance, volatility, release control of adsorbed oil, handling after oil adsorption, and heat resistance. ;SOLUTION: In an oil absorbing material, plastic fine particles of 0.1-50 μm average particle size are fusion-bonded on porous carbon particles of 0.1-100 mm average particle size. As the porous carbon particles, a wood, coal, resin, or pitch type product obtained by a method in which a carbonized substance prepared by carbonizing a raw material such as charcoal, coal, coke, coconut shell, resin, and petroleum pitch at high temperatures is activated by a method such as a gas activation method, a steam activation method, a chemical activation method in which chemicals such as zinc chloride and phosphoric acid are used for activation is preferable in terms of oil adsorption. The oil absorbing material is suitable for treating oil dispersed on the surface of river or sea and used in the form of granules or moldings.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
