PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply and highly accurately identify an image. ;SOLUTION: A defective image is entered from an image entering part. An exception detection part 22 detects exception processing signals (a black-and- white signal i221, a no-defect signal i222 and a congested signal i223) from the defective image. A featured value extraction part 23 extracts the featured value of the defective image. An identification part identifies the defective image based on the featured value and a judgement part judges the identified result. When the identified result does not coincide with the contents of the signal i221 or when the signal i222 or i223 is inputted, no identification result is outputted from the identification part as identification disablement. Since identification is supported by the judgement part using the exception processing signals, the accuracy of identification can simply be improved.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
