PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively utilize the grinding chips of metal which is heretofore discarded as industrial waste and to easily and inexpensively obtain a coloring agent by using metal oxide powder obtd. by oxidizing the grinding chips of the metal as a basic raw material. ;SOLUTION: The metal oxide powder obtd. by heating the grinding chips of the metal which is preferably a ferrous metal or further preferably bearing steel, at 450 to 500°C in, for example, a rotary sintering furnace and oxidizing the chips is used as the basic raw material. The coloring agent is added to raw material clay and glaze for ceramic products, by which the ceramic products may be colored or made to develop colors according to the contents incorporated into the metal oxide powder and the content ratio of the components. If the metal is the ferrous metal, the iron oxide is the basic raw material for the coloring agent which causes the color development of the ceramic products to a dark brown or blackish brown color by the ratios of additions. The glaze which consists of the metal oxide powder which contains SiO2, Al2O3 and basic oxides ((e.g.; K2O, CaO, etc.) as the basic raw material and is mixed with the coloring agent is preferable as the glaze.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
