PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a freshness retentive agent which prolongs remarkably keeping the quality of cut flowers by making the agent include an organic compound forming a water-soluble complex with silver through sulfur atoms, a silver compound and a polycation. ;SOLUTION: This retentive agent is obtained by mixing (A) an organic compound (e.g. 2,2'-thio-diglycolic acid or the like) which has a structure of formula R1-S-R2 (R1 and R2 are each a monovalent organic group) and forms a water-soluble complex with silver through sulfur atoms, (B) a silver compound (e.g. silver nitrate or the like) and (C) a polycation (e.g. triethylenetetramine or the like). On the above retentive agent, it is favorable that the concentration of silver is 0.0001-5 mM, the molar ratio between silver and the component A is 1/100-1,000 and the molar ratio between the cation unit in the component C and silver is 0.1-10. Further, it is favorable that the pH of the above retentive agent is 3-11. Furthermore, it is favorable that the cut end of cut flowers is impregnated with a solution of the above retentive agent in order to prolong keeping the quality of the cut flowers by using the above retentive agent.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
