PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oxide superconducting stranded wire which has insulation between strands and exhibits a high critical current. SOLUTION: A wire 11 composed of an oxide superconducting material and a matrix which covers it, comprising silver or silver alloy is painted with a paint having an organic metal polymer such as silicon polymer or aluminum primary phosphate as a main ingredient in a paint tank 15, and the paint is baked by passing it through a drying furnace 16 and a baking furnace 17. After stranding plural pieces of wire with the paint baked, the stranded wire obtained is heated up to a temperature required to sinter the oxide superconducting material. The stranded wire thus obtained through a sintering process can exhibit a high critical current. In addition, an insulated coating layer with heat resistance is formed by baking the paint.
