PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid polymeric electrolyte type fuel cell that can be miniaturized, reduced in weight, and improved in efficiency. SOLUTION: Water lubricated type compressors 2, 3 are used to feed a reaction gas to an anode 12 or a cathode 13. This constitution has the following effect. Compared with a conventional non-lubricated compressor, the surface pressure of a sliding face, that is, a compression ratio and rotating speed can be markadly improved, and leakage of reaction gas from the sliding face is reduced to improve compression efficiency, so that there is no degradation in performance due to the formation of an oil film in a cell 1. Furthermore, the constitution of the compressors can be made smaller in a marked degree (by about one-third to a half) than that in the conventional non-lubricated compressors, and driving power can be reduced significatly through the improvement of compression efficiency and the decrease of frictional loss. A fuel battery of this constitution is particularly practical in the case of being used as a drive power source for a vehicle stringently demanded of miniaturization, weight reduction and economy.
