PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a graphite crucible allowing to react a low viscous erosional material with alumina, enhance the viscosity of the erosional material, control the advance of the erosive corrosion of the crucible and thereby elongate the life of the graphite crucible by adding the alumina to raw materials containing graphite and silicon carbide as main components and used for producing the graphite crucible, kneading the mixture, molding the kneaded product and subsequently calcining the molded product. ;SOLUTION: This graphite crucible is obtained by adding 1-30 wt.% of alumina to raw materials containing graphite and silocon carbide as main components and used for graphite crucible, further adding a binder, kneading the mixture, molding the kneaded product and subsequently calcining the molded product. When the alumina is added in an amount of ≤1 wt.%, the improvement of the corrosion resistance is not recognized. When the alumina is added in an amount of ≥30 wt.%, the spalling resistance of the graphite crucible to heat shock is lowered, and the life of the graphite crucible is shortened by the generation of cracks caused by the heat shock instead of erosion. When an erosional material is brought into contact with the graphite crucible in a slag line portion where the erosion remarkably advances, the erosional material reacts with the alumina, thus enhancing the viscosity of the erosional material to inhibit the advance of the erosion.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
