PURPOSE: To provide a hydrophilic surface-treating aqueous solution containing polyglutamic acid and a basic compound as main components, and capable of forming a hydrophilic coating film good in hydrophilicity retainability, exhibiting good corrosion resistance, and preventing the generation of malodors on an AL material such as the aluminum fin of a heat exchanger. ;CONSTITUTION: This aqueous solution contains (A) polyglutamic acid and (B) a basic compound (preferably an aqueous compound having a boiling point of ≤200°C, such as ammonia or allylamine) as main components. The compound A is preferably γ-polyglutamic acid having a mol.wt. of 100000-1500000, and is obtained, e.g. from the culture solution of Bacillus subtilis F-2-01 strain. The component B is mixed in at least an amount required for dissolving the component A in water. When Al (alloy) is subjected to a hydrophilic surface treatment, the Al (alloy) is preferably subjected to a defatting treatment using an alkali or a solvent and further, if necessary, to an anticorrosive pretreatment.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
