PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject inhibitor strongly inhibiting acetolactate synthetase and capable of providing herbicides or reagents having high safety by using a well-known substance obtained from cultured product of microorganism. ;SOLUTION: This inhibitor contains a compound of the formula (R is H or Cl) or its salt as an active ingredient. The compound of the formula can be produced by fermentation method (GB 1139041). Since the inhibitor strongly inhibits acetolactate synthetase which does not exist in mammal such as human, it can be expected to use the inhibitor as a herbicide or reagent having high safety.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
