PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently exhaust near a positive electrode contact where an ionized gas is left in a high density for a long time and improve the interrupting performance by designating the polarity of each terminal part so that the contact, of a movable contact and a fixed contact, where the ionized gas generated in current interruption which is left near it is easily eliminated is a positive electrode, and the other contact is a negative electrode. ;SOLUTION: An arc A generated between a movable contact 2 and a fixed contact 3 is extended in an arrowed direction by the attracting action of an arc extinguishing grid 6, and cooled by the arc extinguishing grid 6. This air circuit breaker has an exhaust port 13a situated near the movable contact 2 so that the ionized gas present near the movable contact 2 is easy to eliminate. Thus, it is instructed to connect a terminal part 10 to the positive electrode side of a dc power source 14 so that the positive electrode is set on the movable contact 2 side. Thus, the dielectric breakdown can be prevented between the movable contact 2 and the fixed contact 3, or between conductors such as a movable contact 1 and a fixed contact 4, and the interrupting performance can be improved.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
