PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To permanently protect a building frame from vibration by generating a constant friction damping force even if the amount of deformation of a spring is varied as the result of deformation of the building frame due to external factors and of the wear of a friction material, etc. ;SOLUTION: A friction damper 20 comprises a friction damping force generating part 26, which is provided between an upper beam 14 and a coupling part 18a at the upper end of a brace and which consists of a horizontally pointed slide plate 22 and a friction material 24 that slides as it is pressed against the slide plate 22, and a coned disc spring 28 provided between the friction damping force generating part 26 and the coupling part 18a and generating a resilient force that produces a pressure contact force in the friction damping force generating part 26. The coned disc spring 28 is set to be deflected at the application of the set pressure contact force, within a nonlinear spring area where fluctuation of the resilient force is small relative to the expected amount of change in the dimension of vertical clearance 6 between the upper beam 14 and the coupling part 18a.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
