PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrial furnace having a heat insulating layer in which a castable refractory hardly drops on the refractory wall surface of the industrial furnace or the like and a construction method for the heat insulating layer of the industrial furnace which can be easily constructed for a short time. ;SOLUTION: An air setting mortar 2 with a prescribed thickness is applied substantially uniformly on the inner side surface of the refractory wall 1 of an industrial furnace or the like. A light castable refractory 3 is further applied substantially uniformly with a prescribed thickness to the upper surface of the air setting mortar 2. Thus, a heat insulating layer is formed on the inner side surface of the refractory wall 1. The air setting mortar 2 is desirably formed so as to have the thickness of 1 to 10 mm on the surface of the refractory wall 1.
