Magnetic dipole position determination method and apparatus using the spatial and temporal processing of magnetometer data

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain data on dipole's position and speed by determining the position of magnetic dipole. ;SOLUTION: With multiple magnetic sensors 11, an actual set of magnetic field measurement values of target magnetic dipole is collected (step 21). Then, an orbit of magnetic dipole is assumed (step 22). Then, a set of magnetic field measurement values estimated to have been formed with a magnetic dipole moving along an assumed orbit is decided (step 23). Then, the estimated magnetic field measurement value and the actual magnetic field measurement values are compared each other (step 24). Then, based on the comparison, a new orbit of the magnetic dipole is assumed (step 25). Then, until the actual magnetic field measurement value sufficiently approaches the estimated magnetic field measurement value, these step 23 and 25 are repeated (26).;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
