PRODUCTION OF POTASSIUM SILICATE FERTILIZER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To satisfy official specification on fertilizer regulatory issue by mixing pulverized coal combustion ash containing mullite at a specific ratio or above with a calcium-containing material, a potassium-containing material and a magnesium-containing material and baking and cooling the mixture. ;SOLUTION: Pulverized coal combustion ash containing ∞5 wt.% mullite is mixed with a calcium-containing material containing 6-15 wt.% calcium oxide, a potassium-containing material and a magnesium-containing material and the mixture is baked and cooled to provide the objective potassium silicate fertilizer. Fluid bed combustion ash in which limestone powder is mixed in coal as use for desulfurization simultaneously carried out in combustion is preferably used as at least part of pulverized coal combustion ash and the calcium-containing material. Dolomite is preferably used as at least part of calcium-containing material and the magnesium-containing material. Production of potassium silicate is made possible by using Blair Athol coal ash having large mullite content and small calcium oxide content.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
