PURPOSE:To analyze a micronucleus cell at high speed by a method wherein a cell stained with acridine orange is allowed to flow in a liquid stream and irradiated with laser beam and the micronucleus cell is analyzed on the basis of the fluorescence peak intensity of said beam. CONSTITUTION:The cell stained with acridine orange flowing through a flow channel 10a is irradiated with the laser beam (l) from argon ion laser 14. A part of the signal beam in a 90 deg.-direction from the cell is incident to a photodetector 15b for detecting scattering beam. A part of the signal beam transmitted through a dichroic mirror 18a is further detected by a photodetector 15c for green fluorescence and the beam transmitted through the mirror 18b is detected by a photodetector 15d for red fluorescence. The detection signals of the photodetectors 15a - 15d are taken in an MPU 22. The MPU 22 selects and analyzes the cell beam data of the micronucleus cell from the cell beam data of an objective cell group on the basis of the intensity I0 of forward scattering beam and the intensity I90 of 90 deg. scattering beam.
