PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hardware description language(HDL) editing device capable of correctly and efficiently executing the dividing work of an HDL file and effectively utilizing an HDL file resource. ;SOLUTION: An original external file(HDL file) 1 is inputted to the device by an I/O control part 2, developed in a storage part 4 and displayed on the screen of a display part 3. A device operator selects an HDL area to be divided from the HDL file displayed on the screen by the use of a mouse 7 and specifies whether the division of the HDL area is to be executed on the same level or as hierarchical structure. A control part 4 generates an HDL file for dividing the selected HDL area in accordance with signal/logic extraction algorithm in the device and stores the file in a file storing part 5. Then the control part 4 deletes the HDL part extracted from the original HDL file, newly generates and adds connection relation with the deleted part and stores the connection relation in the file storing part 5.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
