PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject medium capable of excellently proliferating a hair papilla cell in a serum-free state or low serum state, by adding an extract of pituitary body to a basal medium for animal cell culture. ;SOLUTION: An extract of pituitary body such as an essence of bovine pituitary body is added to a basal medium for animal cell culture (preferably αMEM medium or DMEM medium). Preferably insulin and/or transferrin besides the essence of bovine pituitary body is added to the medium. Preferably the amounts of the extract of pituitary body, insulin and transferrin added are 50 μg/mL, 5 μg/mL and about 5 μg/mL, respectively.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
