PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antiscaling agent and method which has a large preventive effect against adhesion of various kinds of scale generated in a cooling water system, a boiler water system, or the like, exhibiting an excellent preventive effect against adhesion of silica and calcium scale in particular. ;SOLUTION: This antiscaling agent contains a polymer having at least 50 mol.% of N-vinyl formamide unit or N-vinyl acetamide unit and a phosphorus compound. Scale is prevented by adding a polymer having at least 50 mol.% of N-vinyl formamide unit or N-vinyl acetamide unit and a phosphorus compound in an aqueous solution.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
